Nov. 15 TUE 12:00-13:30, at Ora Room (8th Floor)

In this conference, we designed Woman Engineer's Session and prepared a special program for woman engineers. The purpose of the program is to encourage women students of engineering part in their choice of career by inviting leading women engineers in the practical fields, and listening to their works and know-hows. There will be talks giving the practical and current assessment of woman in science and engineering including discussions about effective practices for promoting a good future design and challenges ahead. Accordingly, we invited two outstanding women engineers who are working in the representative companies, that is, Samsung Electronics and Hynix Semiconductor respectively as follows:

• Chair SungMin Park ( Ewha Womans Univ.) ,   JeongYon Shim ( Kangnam Univ.)
12:00 - 12:30 Lunch
12:30 - 12:55 "Live, Work and Enjoy!"
Soojung Ryu, (Principal engineer, Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology)
12:55 - 13:20 "Woman Engineer's Life"
Hee Jin Byun, (Senior Engineer in DRAM Design, Hynix Semiconductor)

Soojung Ryu
Principal engineer
Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology

Soojung Ryu is a principal engineer at Samsung Electronics. She has been with Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology from 2004 as a processor architect after she received her Ph.D. degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. She is currently leading a project team of digital signal processor (DSP) architecture, implementation, compiler, and verification to develop Samsung Reconfigurable Processor. Her research focus is the development of high performance DSP solution for various multimedia applications including audio, video, image processing and 3D graphics with low power consumption.

Hee Jin Byun
Senior Engineer in DRAM Design
Hynix Semiconductor

Byun Hee Jin received the BS and MS degrees in Electronic Engineering from KAIST, Korea in 1998 and 2000, respectively. She is currently a Senior Engineer in DRAM Design, Hynix Semiconductor, Icheon, Korea. Her research area is Circuit Design and Failure Analysis for Mobile, Main Memory, Consumer, and Graphics DRAM.

Brief introduction to her research area of memory chip
A memory chip is an example of VLSI. It is comprised of various digital circuits and analog circuits that supports a variety of memory functions. In case of Memories, there is a specification determined by a committee, JEDEC, which is constituted by customers and memory vendors, and a memory should be designed to meet this specification in various conditions like Sahara Desert and the Antarctic. Nowadays in the world, there are only a few memory companies including Hynix and they are in fierce competition. So companies are active in achieving not only the superiority of characteristics but also chip size reduction for increasing the productivity. In addition, low power consumption has been a hot topic in memory design due to growing market needs.

You are invited to participate this session where you can meet experienced engineers and colleagues, and get good advices for your future career.

Thank you
